The final season of the league to be played at all of India’s traditional venues was the 2019 season. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the tournament had to be moved to the UAE and moved from its original March-May window to September-November in 2020.

The season was interrupted midway through the 2021 attempt to play in the Indian summer due to a breach of the bio-secure bubble, and the second half of the season was then resumed in the UAE in September. The tournament was held in India in the months of March through May of 2022, with all league matches taking place at locations in Mumbai and Pune and the playoffs and championship game taking place in Kolkata and Ahmedabad.

Under Hardik Pandya’s leadership, Gujarat Titans won the IPL championship in their debut last year, defeating Rajasthan Royals in the championship game in Ahmedabad.
